DANFS commissions Vincennes (CL-64) on 21 January 1944 with Capt. Arthur D. Brown in command and does not name a relief. NavSource prints Allen Dudley Brown, captain, from 21 January 1944, and closes the span with the year 1944 only. Uboat.net dates his temporary captaincy of Vincennes (CL-64) from 21 January 1944 to 27 January 1945. The Hall of Valor citation for the Legion of Merit with Combat "V" covers 19 August 1944 to 27 January 1945 and describes fast-carrier strikes on islands in the Central Pacific and ports on the Asiatic mainland, the bombardment of the Palau Islands on 7 September 1944, and the sinking of an enemy cruiser in a night engagement of 25 to 26 October 1944. The command line keeps the NavSource dates. Those are the months in which DANFS has the ship in Task Force 58, at Peleliu, off Formosa with the crippled Houston (CL-81) and Canberra, and in the run north on 25 October 1944. Uboat.net's event notes place him, as Capt. A. D. Brown, in Task Unit 34.5 on 25 October with Iowa, New Jersey, Biloxi, and Miami, and on the firing the next morning.
Uboat.net lists him as a retired rear admiral from 1 July 1949, the date it gives for his retirement. The Hall of Valor header says he retired as a rear admiral. NavSource does not print a final rank. Nothing further of his later duty is in the pages fetched for him.
