- USS Atlanta (CL-104) Captain from 3 December 1944 · Relieved on 22 September 1945
Bayard Henry Colyear commanded Atlanta (CL-104) from her commissioning on 3 December 1944 until 22 September 1945. NavSource lists him as a captain of the Naval Academy class of 1919. DANFS names him at the commissioning as B. H. Colyear.
Uboat.net gives his birth as 6 May 1895 and gives no place. It has no death date.
The same page lists him as a commander from 13 February 1939 and a temporary captain from 17 June 1942. It prints no decorations. The class of 1919 is the NavSource column, not a line on that page. Nothing fetched names an earlier ship.
Atlanta (CL-104) was his only command on the uboat.net list, as a temporary captain, from 3 December 1944 to 22 September 1945. Those dates match NavSource. He took her through shakedown, the passage to Pearl Harbor, the late May 1945 screening cruise near Okinawa, the July and August operations off Japan, and into Tokyo Bay. He was relieved on 22 September, while the ship was still in the bay. The page says it has no career information and no events for him beyond that command.
Not in the sources fetched. NavSource leaves the final-rank column blank.
