- USS McCawley (AP-10) Executive officer, August 1942 to June 1943
Cyril Bertram Hamblett was a lieutenant commander in the United States Naval Reserve. His home was New York. From August 1942 through June 1943 he was executive officer of the transport McCawley (AP-10).
He was aboard for the Guadalcanal and Tulagi landings and for the supply runs that followed. On 30 June 1943 a Japanese aircraft torpedo hit her engine room off Rendova and killed fifteen of the crew. Hamblett supervised getting the men off. He received the Silver Star for that tour. He came off with them.
He had also been master of Moore-McCormack ships. From 22 September 1951 to 10 August 1953 he commanded the hospital ship Haven (AH-12). In Korean waters he received the Commendation Ribbon for fitting platforms so helicopters could bring wounded men aboard. In January 1954 he was appointed merchant marine reserve program officer for the Third Naval District.
