- USS Oklahoma City (CL-91) Captain from 31 October 1945 · Relieved on 5 June 1946
Dashiell Livingston Madeira had Oklahoma City (CL-91) from 31 October 1945 to 5 June 1946, after she was back at San Francisco and before she went into Mare Island for inactivation. NavSource lists him as a captain and gives no later rank.
uboat.net gives his birth as 19 December 1897 and gives no place, no death, and no parents. NavSource gives the full name Dashiell Livingston Madeira. The DANFS commanding-officer table prints Dashiell L. Maderia on the same dates. The name used here is the NavSource spelling. The table's spelling is recorded and not adopted.
uboat.net dates him a lieutenant commander from 29 August 1936, a commander from 1 July 1941, and a temporary captain from 20 June 1942. It lists command of the destroyer McDougal (DD-358) from 10 September 1941 to 13 January 1942, as a commander. The page says it has no career narrative. An event entry ties McDougal to convoy CT 5 on 31 October 1941. The composition of that convoy is not repeated here.
The cruiser command is after the fighting. He relieved Captain Charles Boardman Hunt on 31 October 1945. Through his months the ship lay at San Francisco, where she had arrived on 14 February 1946, until he was relieved on 5 June. uboat.net uses those same cruiser dates and cites the NavSource page. It does not list a wartime command between McDougal and Oklahoma City.
Neither page says where he went on 5 June 1946, or when he died.
