Earl William Morris had the light cruiser Marblehead (CL-12) from the middle of 1942 until January 1944. In those months she was with the South Atlantic Force, working from Recife and Bahia, and she reached New York again on 20 February 1944. NavSource's commanding-officer list for CL-12 does not name him. The only record fetched for him is the uboat.net command table.

Uboat.net gives his birth as 19 March 1894 and does not give a place. No death date was on the page.

The same table lists him as a commander from 30 June 1937, a temporary captain from 1 January 1942, and a captain from 30 June 1942. It says it has no career information, and it lists no ship before Marblehead. An NHHC modern-biography URL under his name returned no file. No Academy sketch, obituary, or grave record was fetched, and nothing else found under this full name belonged to this officer.

Uboat.net ranks him temporary captain for the Marblehead tour and dates it only as mid-1942 to January 1944. DANFS does not name him. It has the rebuilt cruiser at sea from 15 October 1942 with the South Atlantic Force until February 1944, then in New York on the 20th. No event is attached to his name on uboat.net.

No later rank, no retirement, and no death are in the pages fetched. The captain's rank of 30 June 1942 is the highest the table states.
