Edward Douglas White, a lieutenant (junior grade), commanded Rail from 1 March 1945 to 1 July 1945. NavSource is the source for the name, the rank, and the dates. He is not the N. H. White or the Ervin Eugene White who appear under other commands.

Birth, home, and family were not found.

No academy class and no earlier ship are on the line. He relieved Lieutenant (junior grade) Theodore Paul Pierce.

Rail had come back to New Guinea in the second half of February 1945. Late in April, during White's tour, she was overhauled at Hollandia and then brought more barges to the Philippines. She reached Leyte on 1 May and remained in the islands, working mainly around Samar, Leyte, and Luzon. His tour ended on 1 July 1945. The ship's history keeps her in the Philippines through the middle of December, which runs past his relief into the next command. Nothing in the history names him apart from the dates.

No later command or date of death was found.
