Henry John Haynes had Caledon from 29 April 1941 until about September 1942, as an acting captain. He was in command when she joined the Eastern Fleet and when she was allocated to Force B off Ceylon.

Uboat.net records that he was born on 10 December 1893 at Southampton and died on 14 April 1973. It gives no place of death.

The rank table lists midshipman on 15 September 1911, acting sub-lieutenant on 15 January 1914, sub-lieutenant on 15 September 1914, lieutenant on 15 May 1916, lieutenant-commander on 15 May 1924, commander on 30 June 1930, acting captain on 29 April 1941, and captain on the retired list on 10 December 1943, which is also the retirement date. The DSC is dated 18 March 1918, a mention in despatches 1 July 1941, and the DSO 15 August 1941. The ship's commanding-officer line prints DSC and does not print the DSO. The officer page is followed for both. The page says it has no career narrative.

The command covers the Eastern Fleet period. On 26 March 1942 Caledon joined the 5th Cruiser Squadron at Trincomalee. On 31 March she was in Force B for the search off Ceylon, and on 4 April she supported Force A. On 9 April she went to Kilindini. In July she sailed for Britain, and in August she paid off for the Chatham conversion. Uboat.net ends him about September 1942. The DSO falls inside the command. The page does not say what it was for.

He retired, as a captain, on 10 December 1943. The fetched pages do not record a later appointment. He died on 14 April 1973.
