- HNLMS Sumatra (40) Commander from 17 February 1943 · Relieved on 10 March 1944
Izaac Willem Reijnierse had Sumatra from 17 February 1943 until 10 March 1944, while she was laid up at Portsmouth. The Dutch history spells him Commander I. W. Reijnierse and dates the handover 17 February 1943. Uboat.net spells the first name Izaac and lists him as kapitein-luitenant ter zee, glossed commander. The English rank Commander comes from that gloss and from the Dutch history.
Uboat.net records that he was born on 21 August 1893 at Middelburg and died on 23 January 1982 at The Hague. The page spells the death place Den Haag.
The rank table lists luitenant ter zee der 3e klasse, glossed sub-lieutenant, on 5 October 1918; luitenant ter zee der 2e klasse, glossed lieutenant, on 5 October 1920; luitenant ter zee der 1e klasse, glossed lieutenant-commander, on 1 April 1929; and kapitein-luitenant ter zee, glossed commander, on 16 August 1940. Kapitein ter zee, glossed captain, is dated 16 August 1944, after he had left Sumatra. Schout-bij-nacht, glossed rear-admiral, is dated 1 December 1949. He retired on 1 December 1950. The page says it has no career narrative and lists no events.
He relieved Willinge on 17 February 1943. The Dutch history's previous entry is the laying-up on 6 November 1942. Nothing fetched puts the ship to sea in his command. Heinrich Witte relieved him on 10 March 1944. She was transferred to the Royal Navy on 29 April, after he had gone.
The later ranks and the retirement of 1 December 1950 are on the uboat.net table. He died at The Hague on 23 January 1982.
