- HMS Kenya (14) Commander from 25 June 1945 · Relieved on 2 April 1946
John William Radcliffe Thompson had Kenya as a commander from 25 June 1945 until 2 April 1946. She was in dockyard control at Chatham for a long refit, and Japan had surrendered while he still had her. Uboat.net lists no events for him.
Uboat.net gives his birth as 21 July 1906. It gives no place, no parents, and no death.
The page lists him as acting sub-lieutenant from 15 September 1926, sub-lieutenant from 15 March 1927, lieutenant from 1 April 1928, lieutenant-commander from 15 April 1936, and commander from 31 December 1941. It lists no retirement.
The only command on the page is Kenya. He was mentioned in despatches on 30 September 1941, before that command. The page does not say for what, and it does not name an earlier ship. The naval-history chronology says she was taken in hand at Chatham on 6 June 1945 and remained under refit through December, with 40 mm Bofors mountings fitted in place of 20 mm Oerlikons. It does not print his name.
Uboat.net ends the command on 2 April 1946. The chronology recommissions the ship in April 1946 for the West Indies and does not say who had her. Nothing further was fetched.
