Richard Graham Stewart had Emerald from 25 August 1942 until 3 November 1942, as a commander. He relieved Francis Cyril Flynn after the Eastern Fleet had moved its base from Ceylon to East Africa.

Uboat.net records that he was born on 5 August 1901. The page gives no place, and it gives no date of death.

The same page lists him as acting sub-lieutenant on 15 January 1921, sub-lieutenant on 15 September 1921, lieutenant on 15 August 1923, lieutenant-commander on 15 August 1931, and commander on 30 June 1938. It lists no decoration, and it says it has no career or biographical information beyond that table.

Uboat.net is the only fetched list of his commands, and Emerald is the command in this period. Mason's chronology has her on Indian Ocean trade defence after the April 1942 search, and then bound for a refit in Britain. The pages do not say what he did in the ship day by day. He left her on 3 November 1942, when John Frederick Denman took her.

The fetched pages do not record a later appointment or a death.
