Lieutenant Commander Robert Kent Rosemont commanded the United States Navy destroyer Hunt from 10 July 1958 to 9 October 1959. In that billet he was the ship's captain, the officer who trained her crew and took her to sea with the Atlantic Fleet.

Hunt (DD-674) was a Fletcher-class destroyer built by the Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company at Kearny, New Jersey. She was launched on 1 August 1943 and commissioned on 22 September 1943 with Frank Paull Mitchell, Jr. in command. Late in December 1943 she reached Pearl Harbor and joined the fast carrier force, screening a task group whose carriers included Essex, Intrepid, and Cabot. In the spring of 1945 she operated off the Ryukyu Islands. She sailed for home on 19 June 1945, entered overhaul at San Francisco in July, and was placed out of commission at San Diego on 15 December 1945.

The Navy returned Hunt to service at San Diego on 31 October 1951, with Lynn F. Barry in command. After refresher training off the California coast she sailed for Newport, Rhode Island, and arrived there on 3 March 1952. From that port she spent the next several years on antisubmarine exercises and on plane-guard duty with aircraft carriers. That Atlantic destroyer routine was the work still expected of her when Rosemont took command in the summer of 1958.

His tour lasted a little more than fifteen months. A Newport destroyer of those years spent much of her time drilling against submarines, standing by carriers, and keeping guns, torpedoes, and machinery ready for a short-notice sailing. Rosemont left Hunt on 9 October 1959. The ship remained in commission until 30 December 1963.
