He graduated from the Naval Academy at Etajima in its 49th class, and before this command he had been a staff officer of the China Area Fleet.
He took command on 7 February 1944, while she was being rebuilt as an antiaircraft cruiser. In 1944 she carried troops to the Bonins and in November went to Manila with a convoy carrying ammunition for Admiral Kurita's fleet. On 13 November 1944, as she got under way in Manila Bay to carry Vice Admiral Shima and the Fifth Fleet staff to Brunei, Task Force 38's aircraft hit her with three bombs. She settled in shallow water west of Cavite. Eighty-nine men were killed, most of them from the embarked staff. He and most of the crew survived.
What became of him after this command is not recorded in the sources used here.
