Sydney Keith Smyth had HMS Enterprise (D52) from 2 October 1944 until 24 October 1944, as a retired captain. She was being withdrawn from operational service and sent to the reserve at Rosyth.

Unithistories.com records that he was born on 4 January 1884 at Belfast and died on 2 February 1978 in the Exeter district of Devon. Uboat.net gives the same birth date and no death.

He was a midshipman on 15 April 1900, sub-lieutenant on 15 April 1903, lieutenant on 30 September 1905, lieutenant-commander on 30 September 1913, and commander on 30 June 1918. He retired on 12 February 1930 and was promoted captain on the retired list the same day. Both uboat.net and unithistories give those dates. He was appointed OBE on 11 March 1941 for the destruction of the submarine Poncelet on 8 November 1940. The investiture was on 23 September 1941.

Unithistories gives him the armed merchant cruiser Scotstoun from 2 September 1939 to 13 June 1940, and the sloop Milford from 20 June 1940 into June 1941, which is the command tied to the OBE. He was then a staff officer for convoys in Western Approaches, maintenance captain at Gibraltar in Cormorant from 1 March 1942, and maintenance captain on the staff of the Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth, from November 1942 into June 1944. Both sources give him Enterprise from 2 October to 24 October 1944. Mason has her joining the Reserve Fleet at Rosyth on 16 October, during that command, and paying off for reserve.

Unithistories shows him reverting to the retired list between January and April 1945, and it lists no appointment for January 1945. He died on 2 February 1978 in the Exeter district.
