- HMS Kenya (14) Commander from 24 August 1943 · Relieved on 4 September 1943
Theodore Edward Podger had Kenya as a commander from 24 August 1943 until 4 September 1943. The naval-history chronology records a command change on 24 August and does not print his name. Uboat.net gives the eleven days to him, with Rear-Admiral W. G. Tennant's flag in the ship for exercises off Kilindini.
Uboat.net says he was born on 1 April 1906 at Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, and that he died on 15 October 1982, aged 76, at Whetstone, Middlesex. It gives no parents.
The page lists him as acting sub-lieutenant from 15 September 1926, sub-lieutenant from 15 March 1927, lieutenant from 15 June 1928, lieutenant-commander from 15 June 1936, commander from 30 June 1942, and captain from 31 December 1947. It dates his retirement 4 March 1957.
Kenya is the only warship command on the page. On 25 and 26 August 1943 she exercised off Kilindini with Emerald, Tennant's flag in Kenya. On 3 and 4 September she exercised again with Hawkins and destroyers. The page spells one of those sentences "Durning." He was mentioned in despatches on 3 October 1952 and appointed CBE on 13 June 1957. The page does not say for what, and it does not describe any wartime command besides these eleven days.
He was promoted captain at the end of 1947, retired on 4 March 1957, and died on 15 October 1982. No appointment between the Kenya command and the 1952 mention was fetched.
