- USS Wilkes-Barre (CL-103) Captain from 17 August 1945 · Relieved on 13 June 1946
William Williams Juvenal had Wilkes-Barre (CL-103) from 17 August 1945, two days after the order to cease offensive operations, until 13 June 1946. He had her for the occupation of Japan and the China coast, and for the voyage home to Philadelphia. No fuller wartime biography was found.
Uboat.net says he was born on 16 April 1899 in New Rochelle, New York. Nothing fetched names his parents or his schooling.
Uboat.net gives his ranks as lieutenant commander from 1 July 1936, commander from 1 July 1941, and temporary captain from 20 June 1942. It gives no Academy class and no earlier ship. No Lucky Bag or Naval Register page was fetched.
The only ship command uboat.net lists for him is Wilkes-Barre, as temporary captain, from 17 August 1945 to 13 June 1946. Those dates match NavSource, which styles him captain. DANFS does not name him. He relieved Captain Robert L. Porter, Jr., after the July and August strikes on Japan and before the Third Fleet entered Sagami Wan. He was relieved at Philadelphia, while the ship was lying there between her arrival on 18 March 1946 and the Gulf cruise of October.
Uboat.net says he died on 3 October 1975, aged 76, at Orange, California. It lists no decorations and no later duty. A retirement rank is not on the NavSource line.
