No photograph of Arare was found. This is the U.S. Navy recognition sheet of the Asashio class, ONI 41-42, April 1943. It is not a picture of her. Public domain.

Arare was an Asashio-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. In December 1941 she screened the carriers of the striking force sent against Pearl Harbor.

On 7 December 1941, during the Attack on Pearl Harbor, that screen was her station. She guarded the striking force and was not hit.

On 3 June 1942 she was with the Aleutian Islands operation. Her service in that operation closed at Kiska.

On 5 July 1942, in Kiska harbor, the submarine Growler torpedoed Arare. The torpedo sank the destroyer.

Her fate was to be sunk. Arare went down in Kiska harbor on 5 July 1942, and the loss is credited to Growler.
