A boat of this type, not a photograph of this hull
No photograph of I-23 was found. This is the photograph of I-19, a Type B submarine of the same class. It is not this boat. Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

I-23 was a Type B submarine of the Imperial Japanese Navy, the boat known by that name and by the short form I-23.

On 7 December 1941 she was on the patrol line off Oahu for the attack on Pearl Harbor. That offshore station is her recorded place in the attack.

She did not enter the harbor. Through the day of the attack she remained on the patrol line off Oahu. After 24 February 1942 she was missing. That date is the last one given for her. I-23 is recorded as sunk. The cause of the loss is not known.
