I-47 was a Type C cruiser submarine of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was built at Sasebo and launched on 29 September 1943.

She was finished at Sasebo and commissioned on 10 July 1944, with Zenji Orita as her first captain. In that form she carried kaiten.

Orita’s command ran from the commissioning date until he was relieved in the spring of 1945. The boat was still afloat when the war ended.

She surrendered at Kure on 2 September 1945. Her name was struck on 30 November 1945, and on 1 April 1946 the hull was scuttled off the Goto Islands.
