Kembu Maru was a transport of the Imperial Japanese Navy, the type of ship recorded for her as an AP. She is the hull that went into the Bismarck Sea under that name.

In March 1943 she was a transport in the Bismarck Sea convoy. That convoy was overtaken by the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, the action in which she was lost.

Allied aircraft sank her during the battle, across 2 and 3 March 1943. The battle dates her as sunk on 2 March. On 3 March bombs from Allied aircraft sank her, and the attacker is left unknown.

The sinking is not credited to one plane. She went down in the Battle of the Bismarck Sea as a convoy transport destroyed by air attack, the bombs of 3 March the blow recorded against her hull.
