Murasame was a Shiratsuyu-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Naoji Suenaga was her captain from 15 November 1940.

On 24 January 1942 she took part in the Battle of Balikpapan with Naka, while the force hunted a Dutch submarine. She did not meet the American destroyers, and she was not sunk.

In the night action of the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on 13 November 1942 she was with Yudachi, Harusame, and Samidare. One shell hit her. She withdrew, and in withdrawing she drew Helena off Amatsukaze. She was not sunk that night. Youji Tanegashima became captain on 15 December 1942.

Murasame was sunk in Kula Gulf in the first hour of 6 March 1943, with Minegumo, by the American force that had come to shell Vila. Cruiser gunfire hit her. That fire is not credited to one cruiser. One of Waller's torpedoes hit her. One hundred twenty-eight of her men died. Fifty-three reached Kolombangara.
