No photograph of this ship. This is a U.S. Navy recognition sheet of the Akizuki class, ONI 41-42, March 1943. The sheet calls the class Terutsuki. It is not a picture of Niizuki. Public domain.

Niizuki was an Akizuki-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Kiyoshi Kaneda became her captain on 31 March 1943 and was still in command when she went into the one battle recorded for her. On 6 July 1943 she served as flagship of the Japanese force at the Battle of Kula Gulf. American gunfire sank her in that battle. Rear Admiral Akiyama was lost with the ship.

The gunfire that finished her is left to the American ships as a body of fire. No single ship is credited with the sinking.
