The name is a river in northern Japan. Noshiro was an Agano-class light cruiser, built to lead destroyers. She was launched at Yokosuka on 19 July 1942 and commissioned on 30 June 1943.
On 25 October 1944 she led a destroyer squadron in Kurita's screen off Samar. She was in the fight. She was not sunk by the escort carriers or their screen.
The next day, 26 October, American carrier aircraft sank her off Panay, while the center force was withdrawing. Not credited to one plane.
