Shirakumo was a Fubuki-class destroyer, built by Fujinagata. She was launched on 27 December 1927 and commissioned on 28 July 1928. She was the second ship of the name.

Commander Toyoji Hitomi had her from 15 November 1940 to 18 August 1942. At Sunda Strait she launched nine torpedoes. With Murakumo she later caught Evertsen off Dwars in den Weg.

He left her on 18 August 1942, the day he took Makinami. USS Tautog sank Shirakumo off Cape Erimo on 16 March 1944.

The photograph shows the name on her hull.
