Shiranui was a Kagero-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The Uraga Dock Company built her. She was launched on 28 June 1938 and commissioned on 20 December 1939.

Shizuo Akazawa became her captain on 15 October 1940 and remained in command until 10 September 1942. On 7 December 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor, she served in the screen. She was not hit.

Koshichi Sugioka took command on 10 September 1942. Hiroo Yamana succeeded him on 15 November 1942, and Toyoji Hitomi became captain on 20 May 1943. Hinoe Tomoshige followed on 15 September 1943.

Masatoshi Yasumane became captain on 5 October 1943. Teisaburo Ara took command on 1 November 1943 and held the ship through the end of her service.

On 25 October 1944 Shiranui was at the Battle of Surigao Strait with Shima's force. She came out of the battle.

Two days later, on 27 October 1944, an air attack sank her north of Iloilo, Panay. Ara was in command when she was lost.
