Yugumo was a Yugumo-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy, built at Maizuru Naval Arsenal. She was launched on 16 March 1941 and commissioned on 5 December 1941.

Shigeo Semba was her captain from 16 October 1941, and he had the ship through her early commissioned service. On 4 June 1942 she was in the screen at the Battle of Midway.

Higashi Osako relieved Semba as captain on 25 March 1943 and was in command for the rest of her life.

That life ended at the Battle of Vella Lavella on 6 October 1943. Yugumo charged the American line, gunfire knocked out her steering, and a torpedo finished her. She sank that day at Vella Lavella. In the same action one of her torpedoes hit Chevalier and detonated the forward magazine.
