Cape Isabel

TypeCargo ship (AK)
BuilderConsolidated Steel, Wilmington
FateAfloat. Scrapped in 1968. This is the 1943 freighter, not the later roll-on ship of the same name.

Laid down, displacement, length, beam, draft, speed, and complement are not stored for each hull, so this table leaves them out.

Cape Isabel was a C1-B freighter. Consolidated Steel at Wilmington, California, built her as Maritime Commission hull 1026 (yard hull 342) and delivered her in August 1943. She was a merchant ship, not a Navy ship. This is the 1943 freighter, not the later roll-on ship of the same name, and a photograph of that later ship is not used here.

She sailed in the Southern Garrison Group, Task Group 51.4, with defense troops for the Marshalls, and was at Kwajalein from 5 to 8 February 1944. She was not sunk, and she was scrapped in 1968. This account rests on the Marshalls order of battle and the Maritime Commission build lists used on this site. No separate history of this ship was found, so nothing beyond those records is claimed here.
