TypeCargo ship (AK)
BuilderMoore Dry Dock, Oakland
FateAfloat. Sold in 1947. Later named Free America. Scrapped in 1969. This is the 1943 freighter, not the cruise ship.

Laid down, displacement, length, beam, draft, speed, and complement are not stored for each hull, so this table leaves them out.

Monarch of the Seas was a C2-S-B1 freighter. Moore Dry Dock at Oakland built her as Maritime Commission hull 1162 (yard hull 249) and delivered her on 16 December 1943. She was a merchant ship, not a Navy ship. This is the 1943 freighter, not the cruise ship of the same name. The battle-star list spells her name Monarch of the Sea.

She sailed in the Southern Garrison Group, Task Group 51.4, and was at Kwajalein from 5 to 8 February 1944. She was not sunk. She was sold in 1947, later renamed Free America, and scrapped in 1969. This account rests on the Marshalls order of battle and the Maritime Commission build lists used on this site. No separate history of this ship was found, so nothing beyond those records is claimed here.
