Alpine served as an attack transport of the Bayfield class, APA-92. Western Pipe and Steel launched her at San Francisco on 10 July 1943. The Navy commissioned her on 22 April 1944.

Guam was her assault. She had 1,417 troops embarked for that landing. On 21 July 1944, along the western shore of Guam, she began putting assault troops and their equipment into the boats.

An attack transport's day off a beach was a chain of boat trips, and Alpine's chain started that day. The figure of 1,417 is the embarkation for the Guam call, the troops with which she began the offload.

She was decommissioned on 5 April 1946. The Guam landing was her wartime combat operation.
