Arenac (APA-128) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class, built to carry a landing force and the boats that would take it to a beach. California Shipbuilding at Wilmington launched her on 14 September 1944.

Commodore Chauncey Crutcher, commander of Transport Division 68, used her as his flagship. The flag came aboard from 3 February. It marked his command of the division, and Arenac went on as an attack transport under that pennant.

On 3 June 1945 she was moored off Hagushi Beach. Cargo and passengers were off her by the 5th. She then took people aboard for evacuation. Air-attack alerts kept coming while she still waited on clearance for the boats to go in.

Hagushi in those first days of June was the beach she served. She finished the war afloat. The Navy decommissioned her on 10 July 1946.
