Banner (APA-60) served as an attack transport of the Gilliam class. Consolidated Steel at Wilmington launched her on 3 May 1944, and she was commissioned on 16 September 1944.

Her assault passage began on 27 March 1945, when she sailed toward the invasion of Okinawa.

From 1 April through 5 April she discharged the troops and the cargo she had brought. Those days off the island were her part in the assault.

Two battle stars stand on her wartime record. She was decommissioned on 27 August 1946.
