USS Boise (CL-47) was a Brooklyn-class light cruiser of the United States Navy. Newport News built her. She was launched on 3 December 1936 and commissioned on 12 August 1938.
On 11 October 1942 she fought in the Battle of Cape Esperance. A magazine explosion there killed about 100 of her men. She was not sunk.
The shells that set off that magazine are recorded on 12 October 1942, when Kinugasa hit Boise. They exploded a magazine between the forward turrets and damaged a gun. About 100 men were killed. The cruiser stayed afloat.
Boise was afloat for another recorded battle. On 25 October 1944 she took part in the Battle of Surigao Strait and was on the right flank.
She survived the war. The Navy decommissioned her on 1 July 1946, and on 11 January 1951 she was sold to Argentina. A later United States Navy ship carried the name Boise; that was a different hull.
