Calvert, APA-32, served in the Atlantic, the Pacific, Korea and Vietnam. She was built by Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point, Maryland, as the merchant ship Del Orleans, a C3 hull for the Mississippi Shipping Company, and launched on 19 September 1942. DANFS says she was launched as Delorleans on 22 May 1942. The Navy acquired her on 30 September 1942 and commissioned her the next day as AP-65, Captain Donald W. Loomis in command. She became an attack transport, APA-32, on 1 February 1943.

She landed troops at Safi, French Morocco, on 8 November 1942 and at Scoglitti, Sicily, on 12 July 1943. In the Pacific she landed the 27th Infantry Division on Makin on 20 November 1943. On 1 February 1944 her troops went ashore at Kwajalein. At Saipan from 15 June and at Tinian on 24 July she made diversionary landings, and in August she carried 420 Japanese and Korean prisoners to Pearl Harbor. She was off Leyte on 20 October 1944 and again on 18 November, at Lingayen Gulf on 9 January 1945, and at Mindoro in February 1945. For this record she received the Navy Unit Commendation.

She went to Bremerton in March 1945 for conversion to an amphibious flagship, which was finished as the war ended. She lifted troops to Japan and then carried returning veterans from 7 November 1945 to 31 May 1946, and was decommissioned at Norfolk on 26 February 1947.

She was recommissioned on 18 October 1950 for the Korean War and made three tours in the Far East. In the summer of 1954 she lifted more than 6,000 Indochinese civilians from Haiphong to southern Vietnam. She served in Vietnam from November 1965 to January 1966 and was decommissioned at Hunters Point on 18 May 1966. She was struck on 1 August 1966, used as a training hulk at Oakland, and sold for scrap on 14 February 1977. She earned eight battle stars for World War II, two for Korea and two for Vietnam (NavSource counts two Vietnam campaign stars).
