Clermont (APA-143) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class. California Shipbuilding at Wilmington launched her on 25 November 1944, and the Navy commissioned her on 28 January 1945.
She entered service in January 1945 with a Pacific landing still ahead. Okinawa was that landing, and her holds and boats were there to put troops and cargo across the water.
On 24 June 1945 she reached Okinawa in company with Bingham (APA-225). Troops went ashore from her, and the cargo went with them.
The June arrival was her share of the Okinawa campaign. She came through the war. On 1 March 1946 she was decommissioned. One battle star stands on her wartime record.
