Dennis was a John C. Butler-class destroyer escort, DE-405. The portrait shows her off Boston on 20 May 1944, hull number 405 on the bow. Lieutenant Commander S. Hansen had her off Samar.
On 25 October 1944 she was in Taffy 3's screen. She was hit. She was not sunk. The shell that hit her is not pinned to one Japanese ship. She stayed with the carriers that got out.
