Deuel (APA-160) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class. Oregon Shipbuilding at Portland launched her on 9 September 1944, and the Navy commissioned her on 25 November 1944.

The 5th Marine Division was the assault load she carried to Iwo Jima. Her work was to put those Marines on the beach and then to lift the hurt off it.

On 19 February 1945 she helped put the division ashore in the opening assault at Iwo Jima. She remained offshore for six days. Casualties she embarked were bound for Guam.

Six days off Iwo Jima, landing Marines and lifting casualties, were her fight. She came through the war. Two battle stars stand on her wartime record.
