USS Flying Fish (SS-229) was a submarine of the United States Navy. She came through the war and was still afloat when it ended.

She took part in the Battle of Midway on 4 June 1942. That day her place was the patrol line west of Midway.

Twelve boats were on that line, and Flying Fish was one of them. She stayed on the Midway patrol line and was not sunk there.

The surrender found her still afloat. She had survived the war as a ship in being, her wartime station at Midway behind her. The Navy decommissioned Flying Fish on 28 May 1954. In 1959 the hull was sold for scrap.
