USS Fomalhaut (AK-22) was a United States Navy cargo ship and the name ship of her class. Pennsylvania Shipyards at Beaumont built her. She was launched on 25 January 1941 and commissioned on 2 March 1942.

On 7 August 1942 she took part in the landings on Guadalcanal and Tulagi. She served that day as a cargo ship in Transport Division C, off Beach Red, with Henry C. Flanagan in command.

On 9 August 1942 Fomalhaut was at anchor in a position from which the Battle of Savo Island could be seen.

Her hull designation changed twice. On 1 February 1943 she was reclassified AKA-5, and on 25 August 1944 she returned to AK-22. Fomalhaut survived the war. She was decommissioned at Philadelphia on 25 June 1946.
