Gilliam (APA-57) served as an attack transport of the Gilliam class. Consolidated Steel at Wilmington launched her on 28 March 1944, and she was commissioned on 1 August 1944.

On 7 January 1945 she departed Tacloban with upward of 500 soldiers aboard. She delivered those men at Lingayen Gulf, where the invasion was going in.

On 1 April 1945 she arrived off Okinawa. While kamikaze attacks were underway she sent scout parties of the 3rd Amphibious Corps ashore and got her cargo off.

Three battle stars stand on her wartime record. She was decommissioned on 5 July 1946.
