Kasaan Bay is an inlet on the eastern side of Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. Kaiser at Vancouver launched her on 24 October 1943. Mrs. R. W. Morse sponsored her. The Navy acquired her and Captain B. E. Grow commissioned her on 4 December 1943.

She reported for duty late in December. On 8 January 1944 she left San Francisco with planes and passengers for Pearl Harbor, returned to San Diego, and reached Norfolk on 28 February. On 28 May she left New York with Tulagi (CVE-72) and Mission Bay, carrying planes to Casablanca, and she was back in New York on 17 June with 342 survivors of the escort carrier Block Island, torpedoed on 29 May.

She left Quonset Point on 30 June and reached Oran on 10 July. Through July she flew antisubmarine patrols in the Mediterranean and rehearsed the landing in southern France. She left Malta on 12 August and three days later was off the French Riviera. Her planes bombed and strafed German positions, destroyed vehicles and tanks, and shot down two aircraft over the beach. She finished that assignment on 30 August, left Oran on 6 September, and reached Norfolk twelve days later. In late October she carried planes to Casablanca again.

Assigned to the Pacific Fleet, she reached San Diego on 2 January 1945. In January she took planes and replacements to Pearl Harbor, Guam, and Ulithi for the fast carriers. She was back at Pearl Harbor on 14 February and trained air groups and replacement pilots until early June. She then patrolled the shipping lanes between the Marshalls and the Marianas. When the fighting ended on 14 August she went to Guam for Magic Carpet duty, left Saipan on 13 September, and reached San Diego on 30 September. Over the next three months she made three cruises to Hawaii and the Philippines.

She returned to San Francisco on 28 December, sailed for the east coast on 29 January 1946, and reached Boston on 22 February. She was decommissioned on 6 July 1946 and joined the Atlantic Reserve Fleet. She received one battle star. On 12 June 1955 she was redesignated CVHE-69. She was sold for scrap on 2 February 1960.
