Kershaw (APA-176) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class. Miss Helen Molloy sponsored her. Oregon Shipbuilding at Portland launched her on 12 November 1944, and the Navy commissioned her on 2 December 1944.

During March 1945 she took aboard troops and gear of the 2d Marine Division and exercised off Tinian. Those drills were the last work before the assault sailing.

On 27 March she sailed for the assault. The troops she carried reached the beach at Okinawa on 1 April. On 14 April she was back at Saipan.

The 1 April landing at Okinawa was her assault. She came through the war. On 20 December 1946 she was decommissioned. One battle star stands on her wartime record.
