Knox (APA-46) served as an attack transport of the Bayfield class. Ingalls at Pascagoula launched her on 17 July 1943, and she was commissioned on 4 March 1944.

On 15 June 1944 she reached the waters off Saipan. She staged a diversionary landing at Garapan, and that same afternoon she sent her troops into the true landing area. She remained offshore until 24 June.

She reached the water off Dulag, Leyte, on 20 October 1944. Her boats went down for the leading wave of the assault.

On 18 November 1944 she was back at Leyte, bringing troops and cargo that had come aboard at Noemfoor. Five battle stars stand on her wartime record. She was decommissioned on 14 March 1946.
