Lander (APA-178) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class. Oregon Shipbuilding at Portland launched her on 19 November 1944, and the Navy commissioned her on 9 December 1944.

June 1945 still found transports feeding Okinawa. The men in her holds were reinforcements, and her boats were the way they would reach the beach.

On 7 June 1945 she reached Okinawa. The reinforcements went ashore from her boats, men sent in to join the fight already on the island.

The 7 June landing put her reinforcements on the island and was her part of that fight. She came through the war. Two battle stars stand on her wartime record.
