FateSunk. On 28 December 1944 a Japanese aerial attack off Leyte sank her, on the DANFS reprint. H-Gram 040 says an aerial torpedo struck her at 1830 that day, in the Mindoro supply convoy, and she was scuttled. Cressman's chronology says a kamikaze, then an aerial torpedo, then scuttling by Edwards (DD-619), at 09°01' N, 122°30' E. An older chronology prints the same latitude off Negros and the longitude 111°30' E. Those places are the sources' words. They are not a surveyed wreck. Struck from the Navy list on 19 January 1945.
Command
  • Long, Ralph W. Captain from 29 June 1944; DANFS names him at commissioning, Lieutenant, USNR, and gives the initial W. NavSource's command table prints Ralph Waldo Long and carries the tour through 28 December 1944. Neither account says he was killed

Laid down, displacement, length, beam, draft, speed, and complement are not stored for each hull, so this table leaves them out.
