Lycoming (APA-155) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class. Oregon Shipbuilding at Portland launched her on 25 July 1944, and the Navy commissioned her on 20 September 1944.
Her boats were meant for a division's guns as well as for its riflemen. In the spring of 1945 the load was artillery bound for Okinawa.
From 1 April through 5 April 1945, kamikaze attacks ran over the transport area while she put 1,294 officers and men ashore. They were artillery of the 7th Division. Guns and supplies went onto Okinawa with them.
Those five April days were her assault work. She survived the war. On 14 March 1946 she was decommissioned. One battle star stands on her wartime record.
