USS Maryland (BB-46) was a Colorado-class battleship of the United States Navy. Newport News built her. She was launched on 20 March 1920 and commissioned on 21 July 1921.
On 7 December 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Maryland lay inboard of Oklahoma on Battleship Row. Bombs damaged her. Those hits are not pinned to any one plane. She stayed afloat.
In the Marshall Islands she turned her guns on Roi, shelling the island on 31 January 1944 and through the morning of 1 February. On 25 October 1944, at the Battle of Surigao Strait, Maryland stood in the battle line.
Julian DuBois Wilson became her captain on 30 December 1944. On 1 April 1945 she was with the gunfire force at Okinawa, and she remained afloat.
The bomb damage at Pearl Harbor did not end her. Maryland survived the war. Wilson was relieved on 1 December 1945.
