Meriwether (APA-203) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class. Kaiser at Vancouver launched her on 18 October 1944, and she was commissioned on 4 November 1944.

Early on 1 April 1945 she lay off Okinawa. Troops and equipment went ashore while kamikaze attacks came in often. On the 3rd her guns helped bring one plane down.

On 15 April she shaped a course for Saipan, and the wounded went with her.

She survived that passage. One battle star marks her wartime record.
