USS Monaghan (DD-354) was a Farragut-class destroyer of the United States Navy. R. R. Thompson became her captain on 19 April 1935.

On 7 December 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Monaghan sank a midget submarine inside the harbor. She rammed the boat and then depth-charged it. Which mother boat launched the midget is disputed.

On 8 May 1942 she served in the screen at the Battle of the Coral Sea and came through that day afloat.

On 4 June 1942, at the Battle of Midway, she was in Spruance's screen and screened Enterprise and Hornet. She was still afloat after the battle.

The typhoon of 18 December 1944 sank her east of Luzon. Hull and Spence were lost in that same typhoon.
