Oxford (APA-189) served as an attack transport of the Haskell class. Kaiser at Vancouver built her for the Navy's Pacific landing fleet.

Ships of her class were built with troop spaces below and landing craft above, so a force could go from the transport to a beach in her own boats. Oxford went to war in that role.

From 11 through 13 January 1945 she served in the Lingayen landing as one ship of Task Group 77.9. For those three days she was in that landing with the task group.

Lingayen was the landing operation she served in. She came through the war. Two battle stars stand on her wartime record.
