USS PT-149 was a motor torpedo boat of the United States Navy, a PT boat of the kind sent to work in close after larger blows had already fallen.
She enters the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, dated 2 March 1943, on the night that followed the destruction of the convoy. The Allied attack that sank those ships was carried out by aircraft.
With the convoy already sunk, the motor torpedo boats came in after dark. PT-149 was among them, and her work was an attack on the wrecks left in the Bismarck Sea.
That attack belongs to the dark hours of 3-4 March 1943. The boats moved in then, and PT-149 went against the wrecks once the air attack had finished the convoy.
The part told of her in the battle is that night run. On 3-4 March 1943 she attacked the Bismarck Sea wrecks after dark, in the wake of the aircraft that had sunk the convoy.
