A boat of this type, not a photograph of this hull
No photograph of PT-489. This is a U.S. Navy PT boat patrolling off New Guinea in 1943, the same kind of boat. It is not this hull. Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

USS PT-489 was a motor torpedo boat of the United States Navy. On the night of 24–25 October 1944 she was on patrol in Surigao Strait with other motor torpedo boats. That patrol numbered thirty-nine boats, and PT-489 was one of them.

In the Battle of Surigao Strait, dated 25 October 1944, her place was with the motor torpedo boat patrol.

The night of 24–25 October and the battle of 25 October 1944 put her in Surigao Strait among those thirty-nine boats, on patrol as the action was fought.
